Eyad Houssami is a writer, consultant, and organization leader. He is also a theatre artist with grassroots and international experience. He works across the domains of ecology, agriculture, education, and culture as a researcher and practitioner, including as an editor and program director.


His current project is a dissertation, titled “Infiltrating Ecology: The Rise of Industrial Agriculture in Modern Lebanon, 1950–1960,” at the University of Leeds. He has overseen the establishment of four nonprofits in the United States, Lebanon, and Germany. He founded the theatre organization Masrah Ensemble and, from 2017–20, was the manager and financial strategist of the Network of Arab Alternative Screens (NAAS), an organization serving cinema communities across ten countries in the Arabic-speaking region. He is editor of the Arabic-English book Doomed by Hope: Essays on Arab Theatre, and his theatre texts include Mama Butterfly and the libretto Battery Dying Flying Submarine (One Space (EU)/Festival de Marseille, Theatertreffen Stückemarkt Shortlist). He lives in Berlin and has worked in English, Arabic, French, and German.
